BT’s version: When I was 2 years old my mother became a Realtor. For years, she would come home from work stressed out about (what seemed to me) these simple things that people make complicated, and on an empty stomach, beat the crap out of me before dinner (I gave her reasons but tell that to a kid). Those were the days that things went bad for her. The days she came home with a fat check, we’d go shopping and out for pizza. Those were the good days. I used to think that she was crazy. Why would she do that to me and to her nerves? Well, now I know… 20-plus years later I became a real estate broker myself. Having ran two successful businesses, which, after burning me out, I sold to start clean slate, I decided to “take it easy” and become a Realtor myself. I did seem like the easiest way to make a great income and have free time on my hands. Well, it “could be” relatively easy. But in this business, it’s the people that make it hard… sellers, buyers, renters, attorneys, and especially other Realtors, all make it complicated. That’s where this blog comes to use… I can use it as an outlet after the bad, funny and outright wacko encounters make my days hard. It’s the insider’s honest view of the real estate brokerage industry. For the world to see what we go through every day… The emotional, mental, physical, financial roller-coaster that is “real estate brokerage”.
So, instead of beating on my kid and taking it out on my family, I will beat the living life out of this keyboard. I hope you enjoy and participate in this strange journey with me – please comment, respond, ask. I don’t know what I’m doing with this but we will play it as we go. For now, you can expect to read about every stereotype but also the more bizarre: Brokers who have neither ethic nor dignity and break the rules and ethics daily. Sellers who are totally out of there freaking minds and lack any common sense. Buyers who dream big with not a pot to piss into, don’t show up for appointments and waste everyone’s time. Attorneys who renegotiate deals for their clients and love to kill deals last minute, after they have already been worked out. Agents who have no idea what they are doing and openly display that they do not give a crap about their clients. The many hours of free labor we put in, just to see a perfect deal die…
OK, so this is not going to be all negative… There’s lots of hilarious (I promise) stories, situations and evidence. There are heart-felt stories of honest folk trying to make a living (I’m lying – are you sleeping yet?) But above all, this is going to be real - and honest, no-bull account of the characters and encounters in the real estate playground called NYC. These are our BROKER TALES!
Note about pictures posted here: All pictures presented here are real and “current” at the time of the post. Most are taken by us. We sure hope they enhance our posts and inform a bit better. Unless they are just nice shots of real estate. Those we just want to share.
The “Bad Photos” are unaltered and no bull, just as they were posted. Most are actual pictures POSTED in real estate ads, on flyers or in other places open to the public by real estate brokers from all around. We get a kick out of them, and hope you will find them funny, too. Ridiculous is funny, don’t you think? Or don’t you? ![]()
