The Prism Condominium at 5-25 Borden Ave, LIC – One Hunters Point has a neighbor!

(post by Dee) To many of us in LIC who have been selling, watching or buying apartments in One Hunters Point on Borden Avenue, the construction next door brought out mixed reactions… some concerns, a little bit of relief, and of course, plenty of curiosity! That lot, 5-19 to 5-25 Borden Avenue, purchased in July 2006 for $9 million, has been under robust construction these past several months. The slightly smaller neighbor to OHP will be called The Prism according to its designer, Gilman Architects. The 12-story building will have approximately 80 condo units and will be closer to 5th Street and The Foundry. As long as The Prism does not block the views of private cabanas at One Hunters Point, we welcome it with open arms!
There is one concern, though… will too many units coming onto the market (L-Haus, Hunters View, and more on Jackson Ave, with The Foundry and Powerhouse still not sold) cause more damage to the already-slow condo sales in LIC?
The rendering from Gilman shows some sort of an angle and a gap (a twist?) between the first 8 and the last 4 floors of this building, as well as a peculiar lighting enveloping the structure. With so much glass, it will stand out (a lot!) from the LIRR tracks and the window-less Midtown Tunnel ventilation building.
