New York City Waterfalls - Niagara Falls on the East River
(post by BT) The New York City Waterfalls under the Brooklyn Bridge are awesome! What a great idea when an old and budget-constrained city like New York authorizes something so wild and extravagant. I have traveled the world and seen other cities that are much smaller and a lot less famous top our city in design. And I always wondered why. Why are people here in NYC so lame – let’s make this city live up to its glamorous name tag. I’m tired of always hearing about local community boards nagging about change and improvement (read: development) sounding like backwards mountain people. I’m never shy to rant and rub it in their faces (see LIC Development post). The protected, independent communities belong on to the other side of the island, the long one, further East (if you’re not familiar, Long Island is full of self-governed towns and villages). The boroughs should reach for the sky when it comes to design and development, and finally, we see something that lives up to its hype and stimulates imagination. Remember Christo’s whacky orange flags, aka The Gates, in Central Park? Those people worked on the project for 20 years! Interesting, but weird. Now, finally, something we can really enjoy. The waterfalls: our own Niagara on the East River! Who would have ever thought of that? Maybe it was placed on the water, under the bridge and off Governor’s Island, because there are no community boards there to fight it. ![]()
