Long Island City Development - LIC Has Arrived!

(post by BT) Yesterday I attended a breakfast meeting in Long Island City (LIC) focused on the real estate development in the area. You freaks out there who can’t stand NY’s Queens’ waterfront shaking its industrial past, rising out the shadows cast by the Manhattan skyline a stone’s throw across the East River, making use of the awesome waterfront for so long occupied only by electric plants, Costco and a bunch of crack heads and local bums, I would love for you to be where I was…. The actual (new) landlords and developers attended this meeting and all I can think of was about the local “activists” and anti-development hippies who cry against gentrification. Oh man, they would love to be here to throw eggs at the panelists, defending their right to live in the greatest city on earth but in the underdeveloped borough of Queens, with LIC exactly a 5-minute, 1-stop subway ride away from Midtown. I have been observing the condos go up. I have seen the yuppies rent luxury, high-rise apartments on the waterfront. I am now seeing a new racquet club opening, hearing of the Amish Market coming… But NOW it’s for real! Long Island City is not “the next great thing”. It has arrived. That is exactly what they said. There are so many deals, condos, hotels, shops, malls (!?), stores and office towers, already in the ground. Look at these development plan pictures and I need not say any more: LIC Vision (recently revealed!), Queens West plans and Hunters Point South.

LIC will (finally) make Queens belong to NYC… and all of you anti-progress naggers can’t stop this train.

Citibank tower at night - cool dizzying shot of LIC:
